Why work for a company that doesn't offer EAP?

Employee Assistance Programs are being offered by many employers. Many companies use their employee assistance programs as incentives to work for their company—and in many cases, it works. Why would any worker, regardless of status work for a company that doesn’t offer an EAP when they could work for a company who does?

Employee assistance programs help the employees of a company with personal issues which could potentially affect their work performance. The assistance granted by these programs usually includes counseling, referral services and assessment for the employees of a company and their household family members.

Stress is a factor in many people’s lives and every once in a while, you just need someone to talk to, to help you deal with the stress and come to some conclusions. Stress affects how someone works as well as the entire working environment for them and their coworkers. Regardless of where the stress comes from, having a counselor to talk to will often help the employee through their problem. Having an employee assessed for stress and other issues also helps bring stress and problems to the surface to be dealt with.

Did you know,

You can quickly receive quotes from multiple EAPs by filling out the form at the bottom of this page? You are not required to leave a phone number and you can receive all quotes by email.

Examples of situations that employee assistance programs deal with include substance abuse, perhaps of someone in the employee’s immediate family or the employee themselves, emotional stress, finances, health, relationship issues with family, relationship issues with coworkers, discussing a safe work environment and dealing with major life events.

Employees usually do not pay for the services they seek out as they are often contracted out to a third party and prepaid by the employer. There are no worries about confidentiality and ethical standards—all the same rules apply. If you go to a counselor offered by your EAP and you complain about your boss—the counselor can not tell your boss what you said—everything is kept in the strictest of confidence under patient/doctor confidentiality.

The benefits of an EAP are for both the employer and the employee. A healthy employee is much more reliable and productive for the employer, but also maintains the health of the employee. In some cases, an employee could be asked by management to seek out services from the employee assistance program if they are experiencing behavioral problems or job performance issues. The ultimate goal is to help employees retain their job while getting help for problems or issues that could be influencing their performance at work.

Employee assistance programs offer up a nice safety net for both employee and employer. There is nothing wrong with seeking help to deal with your issues or problems—chances are, your boss has also sought help from the EAP provider.
