Should we find a local Employee Assistance Program?
 
 
Some HR Managers and Consultants are under the false impression that it is better to find a local EAP for the company they represent. It is crucial to remember that the location of an EAP's home office makes no difference in the level of service you will receive.
 
Why?
 
When one of your companies employees is experiencing difficulties that is affecting their job performance he/she or their supervisor will refer them to your Employee Assistance Program. This simply means calling the EAPs (800) telephone number. At which point they will be connected with someone at the EAPs office who has at least a Masters degree in counseling. The EAP then connects your troubled employee with a counselor who is located within a short distance of the employee's home or office.

The EAP pays the bill for the first four to six sessions and keeps you informed of the employee's progress. At no point do you meet with the EAP personally during this process.

 
So, in summary your main concern is whether the EAP has your locality covered with therapists in their nationwide network. Whether the EAP's home office is located within ten miles of yours or a thousand makes little to no difference.
